Abundantia Verborum

5. Workshops and cognitive linguistics

5.1 Cognitive linguistics

Cognitive linguistics is a broad field that covers areas that are quite remote from tools such as Abundantia Verborum. Not all cognitive-linguistic research is as empirically oriented as the methods followed in this text. Neither is it typical of cognitive linguistics in general to adhere to a formalism as rigid as the label mechanism of Abundantia Verborum.

With the short presentation in 5.1.1 The broader field of cognitive linguistics in general, we primarily want to focus on the points where the tool and the field differ. Afterwards we look for aspects of cognitive linguistics that are closer to Abundantia Verborum. Subsection 5.1.2 Formal approaches and cognitive linguistics summarizes existing efforts to embed cognitive linguistics in a mathematical or computational framework. Section 5.1.3 Representational formats in cognitive linguistics is about the graphical formats that are traditionally used in the field.
