Fitigra :: Travel Information

If you are travelling by plane, you will arrive at Brussels National Airport. From the airport, it is much cheaper to travel to Leuven by train since taxis are quite expensive: a train ticket from the airport to Leuven will cost about 5 Euros, whereas a taxi ride will set you back roughly 60 Euros (1 Euro roughly equals 1.20 USD). A train station is situated below ground level (level -1) at Brussels National Airport and trains leave for Leuven via Brussels regularly. You can look up train timetables and itineraries, using 'Brussel Nat Luchthaven' and 'Leuven' as departure and arrival cities, from the Belgian Railways site. The trip will take about 50 minutes up to one hour. Depending on the itinerary you will need to change trains in Zaventem (the village, not the airport) or in Bruxelles Nord (Brussels-North). Obviously, railway staff at the airport's train station will be able to help you find your way. At Leuven station, you can take a taxi to wherever you will be going first on your arrival -- presumably your hotel. The fare will probably be something in between 4 and 6 Euros.

For more information, please refer to the Transportation FAQ. If you are planning to travel to Leuven by car, by bus or by train, you will find detailed information, including road maps, here.
